Media Day

Meredith Pacenta

As a junior from Hudson High School, I am very honored to be a part of Junior Leadership Akron! It has been such a wonderful experience, and has really opened my eyes to the many opportunities Akron has to offer. Each seminar day, I have learned about the importance of being a leader and how leadership skills can be applied various career fields.

On March 9, Junior Leadership explored Akron’s media sources. From radio to newspapers we had great discussions and lectures on how our society is influenced by the media. Visiting the Akron Beacon Journal and Rubber City Radio was a fascinating experience for me. I loved going behind the scenes and learning about how much work it takes to keep people informed on the latest news.

Media Day helped me understand how media plays a crucial role in keeping us connected locally and to the world. Just as technology is impacting many aspects of our society, I learned it is also drastically changing the world of media. Questions like these arose from the day: how long will newspapers be published on paper, or will they become completely internet-based? Does the media create negative or positive effects on our society? With these questions and many others guiding our discussions throughout the day, I learned so much more about Akron’s media and how it impacts being a leader.
